Aiki entries into judo groundwork

Dojo Rat posted a while back about approaching what he calls a fusion state, basically the point at which all the various martial arts that he has done become one cohesive integrated system - perhaps you could call it dojoratdo. He's also posted here and here about some very smooth judo-like grappling that some of his Chinese MA buddies was doing.
Well, here is a SUPERB demonstration of some extremely creative aiki-like entries into judo-like ground grappling. Thought you'd get a kick out of this, DR.

  1. awesome video, Pat-sama. I also enjoyed the newaza video you posted earlier. Both videos make me want to brush up on my ground work.

  2. Man, I love that! This demonstration is way more dynamic than the previous video. I like how they work into submissions also. Very cool!

  4. Dude, I like that. I currently study Judo, but I'd love to (when the kids are older and I have more free time) incorporate Aikido into my "toolbox". I really like the way the Aiki blends into the Judo "finishes".

  5. Hola, Rodrigo,

I am sorry that my Spanish is so poor that I can't hold a conversation, though I get the idea of your comment and I can pick my way through your blog and get some of the meaning.

I very much enjoyed this video and it looks like others did too just as I expected.

Somewhere in my pile of VHS videos at home I have a film of Tsunako Miyake teaching entries into judo tachiwaza from typical aikido situations, like wrist releases, instead of the slappy-grab grip fighting. If I ever get the tech I need I want to convert that video to a computer format because it's interesting in a lot of the same ways that your recent video is interesting.

Thank you for a great video. Heep up the good work.

  6. Hi Patrick,
My Inglish is not very good, but I try to comment this video.
The sensei in the video is Hugo Véliz Sensei of Aiki-Zen Dojo in Santiago - Chile and the seminar was about Aikido and aplications in Jiu-Jitsu and Judo.

When I do another video about this trainning I show you.
