Army Ranger grappling training

Interesting video. he has some good comments on some things we've been discussing on this blog for a while, including the knife thread and the warrior thread.

  1. I'm not in the military, and I've never been in a war... but if your on a battlefield somewhere and an enemy soldier attacks you with a knife or something, isn't going to the ground and grappling the last thing you'd want to do?

I understand that it's important to learn ground fighting, in case you're ever caught in that position, but shouldn't we be training our soldiers ways to avoid that situation all-together?

I'm a big fan of BJJ and MMA, but I believe it's use is severely limited on a battlefield.

  2. I'm with Rick, but I know there's got to be times where you are out of ammo and tussling might be the last thing you get to do. Maybe a combination of both...

  3. Excellent video, especially the point that you may not ever see the knife that stabs you. We certainly do not square off like gentlemen with our knives and wait for the bell to ring. I'm afraid that all the talk that is going around about "knife disarms" and "knife fighting" is getting people maimed and killed. Great, great post from Chiron as well.
